If we were to pinpoint a company thatembodiesthissuccessas of late, it's First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR ) . It just sold a 139 megawatt facility toutilitygiant -- and large coal consumer -- Southern (NYSE: SO ) , and recently signed a power purchase deal with El Paso Electric (NYSE: EE ) that will supply El Paso with electricity for half what it pays for power from coal. These deals also come with the announcement that the company upped guidance earlier in April which sent share prices up by 46% in one day.

It may have been a long time coming, but the technology for renewable fuels is very close to the point that they can can compete on the open market against traditional energy sources. First Solar just recently announced a deal with El Paso Electric (NYSE: EE ) that it will sell electricity to El Paso from its Macho Springs solar facility for 5.79 cents per kilowatt hour, less than half what El Paso pays for electricity from coal. Also, the Federal Energy Regulation Commission has stated that 83% of all additional energy generation in the U.S. for Q1 2013 came from either wind or solar facilities. Perhaps the route to developing better solutions wasn't the smoothest, but it's hard to deny the overall outcome.

Large MLPs with geographically diversified operations will fare better because they can shift assets around and make sure that all their distribution-paying subsidiaries meet the payroll, so to speak. Here are the seven largest MLPs by market cap:
Enterprise Product Partners LP (NYSE: EPD) – $61.23 billion Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (NYSE: KMP) – $35.13 billion Williams Partners LP (NYSE: WPZ) – $21.95 billion Plains All American Pipeline LP (NYSE: PAA) – $19.3 billion Energy Transfer Partners LP (NYSE: ETP) – $17.78 billion Magellan Midstream Partners LP (NYSE: MMP) – $15.52 billion Oneok Partners LP (NYSE: OKS) – $12.95 billionSize is not the only thing that matters, but size can help overcome some of the cash flow issues these MLPs face. The differentiating factor is a company distribution coverage ratio which is the cash the MLP has to distribute to its limited partners divided by its maintenance capex and interest on the company debt. Anything number larger than 1 is solid.

Bank of America involved, again
Reuters reports that fraud fighter Lisa Epstein discovered that mortgage servicers have been feeding mortgage bond investors incorrect information concerning the mortgages that lie within the MBSes they hold. Servicers such as Bank of America and Ocwen Financial (NYSE: OCN ) , for example, have supplied information to bond trustees Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC ) and Bank of New York Mellon (NYSE: BK ) indicating that homes that have long since been sold or paid off are still in foreclosure. - [By Matt Thalman]
Fellow bank Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC ) also announced earnings this morning, and like JPMorgan, it indicated that revenue growth was an issue. Wells blamed its revenue shortfall on reduced mortgage loans during the quarter.

In order to still provide a convenient location for its customers,Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC ) has taken a different approach to the problem of costly branches. The bank opened a test location in Northwest Washington, DC that features advanced ATMs that can perform most bank transactions. There is no conventional teller line and only a couple employees on hand to help with more tricky customer needs. The branch is a trial for Wells Fargo that, if successful, will familiarize more customers with self-serve options, but it still has its limitations.
